Legislation Update - 23 December 2025

Hi Team,

We’re writing to provide a brief update on e-bike compliance and how this affects current and future Fatboy Bikes stock.

The Road Vehicle Standards (Classes of Vehicles that are not Road Vehicles) Amendment Determination 2025 (the amending Determination) was made under the authority of the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (the RVSA) on the 19th of December 2025 - and commences that day after it is registered. The amendment re-inserts EN15194:2017 into the definition of an e-bike in the Aust Design Rules.

This definition is utilised by the Dept of Transport and Border Security to determine if a product is an e-bike to import into Australia.

Please read the below carefully as we are closed between December 24th – Jan 5th and communication will be limited.

Current position if selling in NSW

  • In the opinion of Fatboy Bikes, V2 and V3 models currently in market continue to meet existing NSW legislation for sale.
  • In the opinion of Fatboy Bikes, these bikes remain compliant for sale and use in NSW under the current rules.
  • NSW has advised it will transition to EN15194, however no formal implementation timeframe has been announced at this stage.
  • The Fatboy DNA V3 model is already built in accordance with EN15194 and can be sold in every Australian state.

Current position if selling outside of NSW

  • Most states other than NSW definition of an EPAC is derived from the Road Vehicle Standards. This now means that all Fatboy Bikes models with the exception of the DNA are no longer considered an EPAC in some states.
  • The Fatboy DNA V3 model is already built in accordance with EN15194 and can be sold in every Australian state.

What’s changing

  • In anticipation of this shift, all Fatboy Bikes V3 models will move to a EN15194 compliant specifications (date to be announced for ordering).
  • This ensures alignment with incoming legislation and long-term certainty for dealers and customers.
  • With this recent change taking immediate effect, we will not be placing any further orders for the V2 model, and no additional V2 stock will be received moving forward, limited stock is available now, expected to sell out fast.
  • Fatboy Bikes are already working towards a bike upgrade package for customers who wish to reconfigure their bike in alignment with EN15194.

Performance

  • The EN15194 compliant V3 Fatboy Bikes we will be releasing will deliver the same ride performance as the current DNA V3 bike.

Fatboy Bikes is proactively transitioning ahead of regulatory change to ensure continuity, compliance, and confidence for our stockists and customers.

We have already anticipated this change well in advance and have pre-planned EN15194 versions of our bikes ready to arrive in Australia this is why we will be able to transition fast. To obtain certification for EN15194 is usually a lengthy process.

Please reach out if you’d like to discuss current stock or upcoming orders in more detail.

Thanks,
Fatboy Bikes Australia
